Mind Set

Step 1 In Losing Weight

doctor

When you are thinking about losing weight, you may be considering things like your diet and your workout routine, and while that is important, you will also need to consider what you are thinking.

Your brain and your willpower are two of the most important tools you will have when you attempt to lose weight, and if you can make sure that you are using them to their fullest potential, you'll find that losing weight will go a lot more smoothly.

First, think about how often you have negative thoughts.

  • Every time you eat something even vaguely bad for you, do you criticize yourself?
  • Are you convinced that you will never lose the weight, no matter what you do?

You'll find that thoughts like that can have an extremely negative effect on what you are trying to do, so take some time to notice when you are having them. Figure out what triggers them, and see what you can do to make them stop. This can be a great first step to take.

Think About Why You Want To Lose Weight

Don't go into the idea of weight loss with just a misty concept of what you want out of it. When you are trying to lose weight, there is a good chance that you have some sort of goal in mind so spell it out for yourself.

Don't be embarrassed, you don't have to admit what it is to anyone but yourself, but you'll find that there is a lot of good in knowing exactly why you are doing this and keeping that in mind. Whenever you feel yourself becoming discouraged, just remind yourself of your end goal.

Don't Be Too Hard on Yourself

Remember that losing weight is a gradual process. It's not an overnight fix. If you step on the scale a week from now, and you haven't lost as much weight as you wanted to, don't get discouraged. Losing weight is like a marathon, not a sprint/

Set Yourself Mini-Goals

Instead of trying to just lose 20 pounds as your goal, try to set up mini-goals that are easier and faster to obtain. For example, just start off by trying to lose the first 5 pounds. Once you reach that goal, set yourself another mini-goal. You will find it much easier to stay motivated when you set yourself short term goals, rather than long-term goals.

Step 2: Proper Diet and Nutrition
